About Us

Beth Caputi

COLLEGE COMPASS is a consulting company based in Brunswick, Maine.  We offer a full range of college guidance services to high school students around the country of varying interests and abilities.

Our goal is to offer personalized support to students who are eager to pursue academic opportunities beyond high school. College Compass does not replace the work you do with your guidance counselor but rather supports that work with more concentrated strategies and individual attention. This is one of the most exciting journeys you will take in life and we are excited to be along for the ride.

I pride myself on providing highly personalized attention to each of the students I work with. There is no magic formula and every student is on a unique journey – I will meet you right where you are. I like to be part of the process from the first college visit right up to the final decision of where to go.  My greatest reward is getting to know so many wonderful kids and their families and helping them to enjoy (rather than dread!) the college hunt.

Elizabeth Connolly Caputi is the principal consultant at COLLEGE COMPASS, established in 2007.  Beth earned her BA in Psychology from Williams College and received a Public Policy Fellowship from the Coro Foundation in New York City.

With over 25 years in college admissions and school counseling, Beth has worked on the admission staff at Williams College and as Director of College Guidance at the Maine Coast Waldorf School. Beth travels to Jackson, Wyoming 6 times a year, where she currently serves as Director of College Counseling at Mountain Academy of the Teton Science Schools as well as College Counselor at the Jackson Hole Community School. Professional contacts with admission and financial aid officers at several colleges and universities, along with relationships with both public and private school guidance counselors are valuable resources for COLLEGE COMPASS.  These relationships keep Beth in touch with the rapidly changing world of college admissions and financial aid.  And this is information she will gladly share with you in an effort to point you to the right college.

Over the years, Beth has conducted workshops for Upward Bound, Maine Wave AAU Basketball, The American Hockey Institute of NH, and LaxPros in Portland, ME.  Beth has served terms on the Parent Council of Holderness (NH) School, the board of the Brunswick Area Student Aid Fund, as secretary of the Friends of Curtis Memorial Library Board of Directors and as Chair of the Friends of Longfellow School.

In addition to her admissions work, Beth has coached athletes of all ages as a volunteer for local youth programs, as an assistant field hockey and lacrosse coach at Williams College and, for 12 years, as the head coach of the Brunswick High School Girls Lacrosse team – Maine’s 2008 and 2009 Class A State Champions.  She has been named Maine State Coach of the Year 3 times.  Beth and her husband Dave, a college coach for over 30 years, including 15 seasons as the head football coach at Bowdoin College, have four grown children. They split their time between Brunswick, ME and Middlebury, VT.
